Fall 2025 Lecture Lecture 1 JEDILower DivisionThis course introduces students to current challenges, debates, and efforts at solutions in global public health with a focus on low-and middle-income countries. It provides an interdisciplinary overview of topics that include measures of health and disease, health disparities, communicable and non-communicable diseases, women's health, maternal and child health, food systems and nutrition, health systems, and global cooperation. It also highlights the central role of data in achieving the global health agenda. Permission of department required.
Learning Outcomes1Identify major issues and trends in global health and their drivers, with a focus on low and middle-income countries.
2Characterize the determinants of health and risk factors for conditions of importance to global health.
3Identify key issues in health disparities between and within countries.
4Describe the role of data in informing and driving decision-making and actions in global health.
5Formulate evidence-based arguments for or against global health policies or interventions.
