Fall 2025 Lecture Lower DivisionThe course provides an introduction to the concepts of community, culture, and social justice. The interaction between community, cultural, ethical, social, economic, environmental, political and social justice dynamics that shape health will be explored.
Learning Outcomes1Identify and understand the social determinants of health.
2Describe how community, cultural, ethical, social, economical, environmental, political and social justice shape human health both locally and globally using a social determinants of health framework.
3Learn about theories of justice related to the field of public health.
4Understand community developmental theoretical frameworks dimensions associated with the social change, such as empowerment, community participation, and capacity building.
5Identify roles and responsibilities of the public health educator, other practitioners, and community members as agents of change.
6Compare and contrast the concepts of health inequities, health disparities and health inequalities.
