Fall 2025 Lecture Distance Learning Lower DivisionThis course serves as an introduction to the field of public health. Topics include identification of the principal determinants of health and how they affect individuals and populations, the role of government and public health professionals in health and healthcare, and critical and emerging issues in public health in the US and around the world.

6Achieve a basic understanding of the major investigative tool in public health: Epidemiology.

8Know major and widespread challenges to good health: smoking, obesity, chronic disease, violence, and social and economic inequities.
9Recognize critical and emerging issues in global health, including the current pandemic.
