is a continuation of PHSC 20400. You will learn the principles of organic chemistry with an emphasis on reactions of pharmaceutically important classes of compounds. This course presents organic chemistry concepts that are essential for understanding various topics in biochemistry and principles of drug action. You will continue to apply the fundamentals learned in general chemistry to the functional classes of compounds that are most important in pharmaceutical and biological chemistry.

Learning Outcomes

1Utilize the basic and advanced principles of organic chemistry to explain the chemical reactivity of various organic compounds.

2Identify the functional groups present in various pharmaceutically and biochemically relevant compounds; be able to predict their physical and chemical behavior at physiological conditions.

3Enhance  critical thinking skills and be able to solve complex multi-step problems in a systematic manner.

4Embrace the tenets of collaborative learning and interact with peers effectively in various professional as well as informal settings.
