Fall 2025 Instructors:

This course is an introduction to digital audio recording and production practices. Topics covered will include design and structure of sound studios, musical sequencing and recording, microphones, fundamentals of sound reinforcement, and sound editing. Students will be required to develop music recording projects.

Learning Outcomes

1Explain the fundamentals of musical acoustics.

2Define digital audio and MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) terminology.

3Explain and demonstrate the principles of music recording (studio and live mixes).

4Explain and demonstrate the fundamentals of sound reinforcement (live sound performances).

5Explain and demonstrate microphone selection and placement.

6Design a recording studio.

7Explain and demonstrate musical sequencing and digital audio editing.

8Explain and demonstrate how to combine digital sequenced data with natural acoustic sounds.

9Create professional mixes: adding reverb, compression, special effects, etc.
