Fall 2025 Lecture Upper DivisionThis course aims to help students develop their language skills in four areas (speaking, listening, reading, and writing) at the advanced level. It covers grammar and vocabulary, reading comprehension, fluency, conversation manners, and public speaking. By dealing with various topics on authentic materials including news, articles on websites, and short stories, this course enables students to enhance linguistics knowledge and skills and also helps them to understand Korean culture, history, and current issues in Korea. It is expected that students will be able to discuss various topics and express opinions fluently in both spoken and written language.
Learning Outcomes1Assess discourse-length texts to comprehend provided texts and dialogue in the classroom.
2Explain the main ideas and most supporting details in connected discourse of paragraphs on a variety of general interest topics in written and spoken Korean.
3Analyze, learn, and produce forms in informal and formal settings, provide lengthy and coherent narrations, present opinions on a number of issues, and provide structured arguments to support them.
4Compose written language in Korean to demonstrate the ability to write about various topics with good control of frequently used structures and vocabulary, by using paraphrasing and elaboration to provide clarity.
5Describe facts and evidence related to Korean history, culture, and society through simple authentic texts and materials such as magazines, drama skits, movies, K-pop lyrics, or traditional games.
