Fall 2025 Laboratory Preparation Laboratory Upper DivisionDesign theory and meaning in landscape architecture. Past, current and emerging design theories are investigated via lectures, research assignments and studio projects. Projects gain in size, complexity and depth of meaning. Emphasis on the role theory plays both as a stabilizing force and as a catalyst for change.
Learning Outcomes1Access available landscape data to summarize critical natural resource needs at the site scale and translate this into fundamental ecological design principles for parks and open spaces.
2Analyze the activities people participate in using available community parks and open space, categorize the landscape elements necessary to support current and projected future activities, and develop a parks program recommendation based on these social conditions.
3Design public spaces that support multi-functional landscapes that fulfill recreation, education, and conservation program goals.
