Fall 2025 Laboratory Preparation Laboratory Lower DivisionMethods, principles and the process of designing in the built environment. Basic principles of site organization and composition are presented and applied in a series of exercises and studio projects. Role of the design process is reinforced both as a problem-solving tool and as a means of creativity and ideation.
Learning Outcomes1Recognize and discuss theoretical design principles, identify those principles in well-designed sites, and apply those principles to their own design work.
2Apply a robust design process to solve increasingly complex site design problems.
3Ideate and assess appropriate program elements based on client and site needs and investigate the impact of alternate program elements on successful site design.
4Analyze natural systems and apply that understanding to determine the appropriate design of sites.
5Apply knowledge of the functional requirements of landscape elements to locate, size, and use these elements in the landscape.
