The course introduces horror cinema across the globe, through the technical and thematic analysis of different subgenres and domestic trends. In addition to building analytical skills regarding film concepts and theories, the course is designed to implement critical skills in film studies, cultural studies, and global studies.

Learning Outcomes

1Apply film studies-related terms for technical and thematic analysis of film sequences.

2Demonstrate a deeper knowledge of horror film industries across the globe.

3Analyze the domestic and international contexts in which films are released (history, politics, social movements).

4Investigate intersectional questions of gender, race, and class in connection with film analysis and film production.

5Develop critical approaches to a variety of horror subgenres.
