Fall 2025 Lecture Credit By ExaminationUpper DivisionMilitaryDepartmental CreditThis course is a continued study of relative motion, formation tactics, and ship employment. It includes introductions to naval operations and operations analysis, ship behavior and characteristics in maneuvering, applied aspects of ship handling, afloat communications, naval command and control, naval warfare areas, and joint warfare.
Learning Outcomes1Explain the theory of relative motion as it applies to vessels at sea.
2Describe the fundamentals of the U.S. Navy's systems of communications used on sea-going vessels.
3Demonstrate proper use of the Rules of the Road preventing collisions at sea.
4Discuss the many issues relating to ship handling and Naval Officers' responsibility.
5Demonstrate relative motion and the capability to solve problems associated with relative motion using maneuvering boards.
6Perform the proper use of Standard Commands during Conning Officer Virtual Environment (COVE) lab.
7Explain the doctrines of Naval Warfare, Command and Control, and Joint Operations.
