Fall 2025 Distance Learning LectureThe aim of this course is to explore and examine the complexities of assessment and evaluation within higher education systems, including but not limited to student learning, academic programs, student support services, and administrative services. The scope of the course seeks to create a practical understanding of assessment and evaluation, whereby we examine the foundations of assessment planning and development, explore various assessment techniques, explicate and develop a comprehensive assessment plan, and explain how approaches to data collection work in concert and separately to assess both student learning outcomes and program effectiveness.
Learning Outcomes1Apply fundamental principles of assessment and evaluation.
2Synthesize knowledge and skills of assessment essentials to create a comprehensive assessment plan.
3Analyze various data collection methods as it relates to assessment and evaluation.
4Evaluate findings from assessment plans and translate into practical actions that inform practice, policy, and institutional effectiveness.
5Apply course content to problem-solving, program effectiveness, and the generating of interventions and services to enhance student experiences in higher education.
