This course covers principles of neurophysiology and cell, molecular and developmental neurobiology for graduate students from a wide range of disciplines. Course material will involve lectures and assigned textbook readings, homework problems and in-class discussions based on selected readings of the primary literature, and computer-based simulations of neurophysiology. Grades will be based on participation in class discussions, graded homework sets and exams (a midterm and a final exam).

Learning Outcomes

1Acquire knowledge pertaining to cellular neurobiology with a strong focus on the empirical evidence (methods and experiments) underlying the facts as they are currently understood in cellular, molecular and developmental neurobiology.

2Communicate this knowledge in both oral and written forms.

3Learn the ethical implications of recent advances in neural stem cell research.
