Energy transduction in biological membranes: physical chemical foundations; electron transfer, proton translocation; and active transport. Atomic structures of integral membrane protein complexes responsible for respiratory, photosynthetic generation of electrochemical potential; ATPase motor, and structure-based mechanisms. Offered in alternate years. Prerequisite: BCHM 56100, BCHM 56200 and CHM 37300. Typically offered Fall.
