Learning Outcomes1Develop an appreciation and analytical understanding of non-Western literature and culture from the formerly colonized world.
2Develop a foundational knowledge of historical contexts, scholarly approaches, and theoretical perspectives to literary text formulate significant critical questions about language, gender, sexuality, race, and/or ethnicity and how identity shapes our lives, experiences, institutions, and cultures, particularly in the context of imperialism / colonialism.
3Gain a complex understanding of global cultures.
4Gain an introductory knowledge of postcolonial literary theory.
5Improve close reading and textual analysis skills.
6Improve critical thinking skills: improve formal writing skills: use textual evidence to support their views, effectively incorporating (and correctly citing) primary and scholarly secondary sources in their writing and class discussion.
