Fall 2025 Instructors:

Reading and discussion of fiction from different periods aimed at enhancing the student's understanding of genre, form, and style; how fiction grows out of and speaks to its historical moment; and how fiction addresses pressing social issues.

Learning Outcomes

1Demonstrate introductory knowledge of a range of genres, topics, and literary conventions of fiction.

2Discuss those genres, topics, and conventions in relation to their diverse historical, cultural, and aesthetic contexts.

3Produce well-reasoned written arguments about the literature they study based on appropriate use of textual evidence.
