Introduction to relativistic quantum field theory. Representations of the Lorentz and Poincare groups. Noether's theorem: symmetries and conservation laws. Canonical quantization of free Klein-Gordon, Dirac, Maxwell fields. Interacting field theory: Lehmann-Kallen representations. LSZ reduction formula. Schwinger action principle. Quantum Electrodynamics (QED): Gell-Mann Low expansion, Wick's theorem, Feynman rules for Green functions and S-matrix elements. Scattering processes in QED: cross sections in low orders of perturbation theory. Prerequisite: PHYS 66100. Permission of instructor required.
