It covers all aspects of naval service from its relative position within the DoD to the specific warfare community/career paths and includes basic elements of leadership and USN and USMC core values. The course provides students with initial exposure to many elements of naval culture and provides the conceptual framework/working vocabulary for students to use on summer cruise.
Learning Outcomes1Demonstrate proficiency in USN and USMC customs, such as the hand salute, uniform preparation, and flag etiquette.
2Describe the departmental organizations of the USN and USMC.
3Define the various watch-standing roles of shipboard personnel.
4Describe the general career path of the various unrestricted line communities in the Navy and Marine Corps.
5Describe all rank insignia of the armed forces.
6Explain institutional values and ethics of the Department of the Navy.
