Spring 2026 LectureThe Seminar in Nursing Research is a discussion-based course intended to socialize the nursing student to the role of an independent scholar. Discussion concentrates upon current topics and issues in nursing research, with an emphasis on targeting the most supportive trajectories for individual student research foci. Admission to the Nursing PhD program or instructor permission. This is one of the first courses taken by PhD students and may be open to graduate students outside the School of Nursing with permission from the instructor.
Learning Outcomes1Demonstrate knowledge of nurse scientists scholarly activities and the system facilitators and barriers to the conduct of research.
2Analyze top tier publishing and presenting opportunities in nursing and healthcare.
3Articulate key healthcare initiatives, shifts in hegemonic thinking and reports at the international and national levels.
4Demonstrate open-mindedness and flexibility in expression of doctoral-level ideas related to the conduct of research.
5Knowledge of ethical research practices and the process and rationale of IRB review, including alignment of human subject protection (or other applicable) forms with types of research.
6Certified in CITI modules (as advised by instructor).
7Critique literature relevant to weekly topics and personal research interests.
