Fall 2025 Clinic Upper DivisionThis course assists students to develop and broaden clinical judgment and skills. Content includes the study of primary care of adolescents and adults with acute conditions and the impact of those conditions on family members. Focus is on assessment, deferential diagnosis, clinical decision making and management, as well as patient and family education within the context of primary care. The adult nurse practitioner role is analyzed in the context of caring for persons with acute conditions. Professional issues, collaboration and scope of practice, and advocacy are emphasized.
Learning Outcomes1Apply epidemiology, physiology, developmental, informatics, technology, leadership, systems, quality improvement, family, community, and health promotion theories and research in the care of adolescents, adults, and older adults with acute conditions.
2Use appropriate diagnostic modalities in assessing the acute health care needs of adolescents, adults, and older adults.
3Synthesize clinical and diagnostic data to formulate, implement, and evaluate care for acutely ill clients and their families.
4Communicate orally and in writing culturally sensitive plans of care that reflect mutually derived health priorities, goals and interventions for adolescents, adults, and older adults with acute conditions.
5Use appropriate legal and ethical standards of practice in the management of commonly occurring acute physical and mental health problems in adolescents, adults, and older adults.
6Implement and evaluate theory and research-based interventions to assist adolescents, adults, and older adults with illness, developmental changes, and psychosocial/environmental problems.
7Utilize community resources in the primary health care of individuals and families with acute conditions.
8Implement interdisciplinary collaboration and APN scope of practice to provide safe treatment to adolescents, adults and older adults with acute conditions.
9Address the uniqueness of diverse populations in providing safe health care to adolescents, adults, and older adults.
10Apply leadership and coaching skills while providing culturally appropriate, cost-effective healthcare to adolescents, adults and older adults with acute conditions where cultural, ethnic, quality of life and socioeconomic issues have been identified.
