Incorporate the use of critical thinking, clinical reasoning, and active learning in analyzing contemporary issues related to professional nursing practice and obtaining professional nursing licensure. Issues surrounding political action, socio-legal concerns, cultural diversity and ethics in nursing practice are used as a framework.

Learning Outcomes

1Analyze standards of nursing care and regulations related to credentialing and certification.

2Articulate the value of pursuing practice excellence, life-long learning, and engagement in professional nursing practice including membership in professional organization, completion of continuing education, and specialty certifications.

3Integrate principles of evidence-based practice, ethical decision-making, inter-professional communication, and advocacy to answer complex questions related to the practice setting.

4Evaluate the impact of local, state, national and global health policy on the healthcare system.

5Differentiate the professional nurse's role in health policy development and implementation.

6Apply effective study habits and test taking strategies to enhance performance on the NCLEX-RN exam.
