Fall 2025 Distance Learning LecturePrepares family nurse practitioner students to assume responsibility for the coordination and delivery of culturally appropriate health services to middle-aged and older families. Students learn to manage stable chronic conditions and acute episodic illnesses commonly encountered in primary care settings. The course emphasizes the conceptual basis for practice and an appreciation for evidence-based care. Students continue to integrate health promotion and health maintenance into the primary care of older clients and their families.
Learning Outcomes1Synthesize health assessment information regarding acute and chronic health deviations in aging individuals and their families.
2Implement an appropriate plan of care in the advanced clinical nursing management of acute and chronic health deviations in elders.
3Manage acute and chronic health deviations in elderly persons while integrating principles of family theory that promote health and well-being for the family as unit.
4Evaluate the need for the continuation, modification, or cessation of the implemented plans of care for aging families.
5Incorporate ethical and legal principles in advanced nursing care of elders and their families.
6Demonstrate competence as an interdisciplinary team member in promoting desired health outcomes for aging families.
