Fall 2025 Lecture Upper DivisionExamination of pathophysiological alterations and clinical management of acute conditions in adolescents and adults. Students will synthesize knowledge of physiological, psychological, and sociocultural factors in the assessment and management of acute illness. Focus is on the differential diagnosis, clinical management, patient and family education within the context of primary care. Health promotion models, as well as biopsychosocial and cultural theories are integrated throughout the course. The adult nurse practitioner role is analyzed in the context of caring for persons with acute conditions.
Learning Outcomes1Incorporate knowledge of epidemiological, developmental, informatics, technology, leadership, systems, quality improvement, family, community, system, informatics, leadership, coaching, health promotion theories and research into the primary care of adolescents, adults, and older adults with acute conditions.
2Examine commonly occurring acute physical and mental health problems in adolescents, adults and older adults.
3Identify primary, secondary, and tertiary prevention for adolescents, adults, and older adults with acute health care problems and their families.
4Analyze acute health problems in adolescents, adults, and older adults to promote health, function, quality of life, to reduce morbidity and improve quality outcomes.
5Integrate evidence-based practice standards while providing safe care to adolescents, adults, and older adults with acute conditions.
6Apply legal, ethical, and professional nursing standards in the provision of safe quality primary care to adolescents, adults, and older adults with acute conditions.
7Analyze acute conditions commonly found in diverse adolescent, adult, and older adult populations.
8Identify resources to assist in the provision of care in diverse settings.
