Introduce students entering the nursing profession to foundations of the baccalaureate nursing curriculum, including concepts, competencies, mandatory requirements and responsibilities within the profession. Students are introduced to the rigor of the curriculum and begin to build a sense of community within the Purdue School of Nursing.

Learning Outcomes

1Explain the relationship between the Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing Practice document and Purdue's baccalaureate nursing curriculum.

2Describe the roles of the professional nurse in the healthcare delivery system.

3Describe individuals, families, communities, and populations as consumers of nursing care.

4Reflect upon personal and professional responsibilities in relation to the nursing profession.

5Communicate in oral and written form at a professional level.

6Identify personal behaviors necessary for success in an academic and professional career.

7Engage in student and/or nursing organizations as an aspect of professional growth and development.
