Fall 2025 Lecture Distance Learning Upper DivisionSurvey of the techniques and practices used in human resource management. Emphasis is on legal requirements, cost/benefit considerations, and strategic needs in managing human resources. Topics include recruitment, selection and placement, compensation, work design, and reactions to work. Specific techniques reviewed include assessment centers, incentive plans, structured interviewing, and autonomous work groups. Current issues and managerial decision making are emphasized.
Learning Outcomes1Develop an understanding of the major HR management needs of most organizations.
2Develop a familiarity with alternative HR systems designed to address those needs, and the advantages and disadvantages of each.
