Spring 2026 Lecture Upper DivisionResearch Ethics broadly refers to the application of everyday values, such as fairness, honesty, and objectivity to scientific research. This course is designed to provide broad coverage of the ethical standards that research scientists must follow and allow exploration of various real-world ethical issues in the psychological sciences.
Learning Outcomes1Acquire knowledge about the professional and ethical standards of science and why scientists must adhere to them.
2Discuss challenges that scientists face in both industry and government while conducting research.
3Identify irresponsible behavior that violates the ethical standards of science.
4Compare and contrast the advantages and disadvantages of using humans vs. animals in scientific research.
