Fall 2025 Lecture Laboratory Upper DivisionThe culminating on-campus teacher-education course for the Purdue University Family and Consumer Sciences program. The course builds and consolidates teacher-candidates' knowledge and skills for teaching family and consumer sciences. Emphasis placed on standards-based instructional planning and materials; instructional strategies, including laboratories, assessment of student learning, and classroom management. Course includes field experiences. Program content requirements should be completed previous to or concurrent with this course.
Learning Outcomes1Establish a comprehensive knowledge base of standards in a range of family and consumer sciences content areas, with a corresponding knowledge base for integrating standards in other areas such as financial literacy, technology, English Language Arts, and mathematics.
2Design and implement standards-based curriculum, teaching/learning strategies, and assessment of student learning to meet the needs of diverse learners.
3Apply knowledge of student behavior, organizational skills, and classroom and laboratory management skills to create a safe, supportive, and productive learning environment.
4Enable student learning of family and consumer sciences concepts and skills through instructional strategies and laboratory experiences that build student capacities for self-directed learning, critical-thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, leadership, and managent.
