Spring 2025 Lecture Upper DivisionThis course will provide students with a conceptual understanding of integrated K-12 Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education and the nature of the disciplines of STEM. Students will explore implications for the teaching and learning of integrated STEM in a K-12 context through an evaluation of integrated approaches to STEM, national teaching standards and current research.
Learning Outcomes1Explore the nature of the disciplines of STEM and their roles in a K-12 integrated STEM context.
2Identify current approaches to integrated STEM education.
3Explore issues related to diversity and equity in STEM education.
4Define and describe how reform-based teaching and learning relates to nature of the disciplines of STEM.
5Summarize the current research on teaching and learning through integrated STEM approaches.
6Develop STEM integration activities for K-12 settings.
7Develop an action research proposal to study a problem of interest in teaching or learning in K-12 STEM settings.
