The purpose of this course is the development of a theoretical framework and pedagogical skills necessary to teach social studies to middle and high school students. Students are introduced to the general issues involved in planning and organizing a social studies curriculum.

Learning Outcomes

1Develop theoretical understanding and pedagogical skills necessary to teach social studies to middle and high school students.

2Develop understanding of cross collaboration, communication, and the characteristics of the community, school, and classroom.

3Develop specific and relevant understanding of student characteristics, approaches to learning, or skills and prior learning.

4Learn general issues involved in planning and organizing a social studies curriculum.

5Obtain the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to become a reflective and skilled social studies teacher.
