Students will become familiar with the work of teachers and begin to develop their educational philosophies through examining what it means to teach and to learn and the nature and purpose of schools. Students will critically evaluate teaching as their chosen profession. This course includes a required weekly field-based experience in an elementary, middle, or high school classroom.
Learning Outcomes1Learn what it means to teach as they reflect on why, whom, and how they will teach.
2Learn to shift from a student perspective to a teacher perspective through the examination of teaching, learning, and schools.
3Learn that teaching is affected by socio-political, community and school contexts.
