The principles of strength, stiffness, and stability are introduced and applied primarily to mechanical components.
Learning Outcomes1Identify what type of stresses are present within a structure based on structure loading (bending, axial, shear, and torsional).
2Apply material properties and cross-sectional/area properties in analysis and design.
3Calculate the stress present due to internal loads.
4Calculate the principal stresses and the maximum shear stress for maximum stress locations.
5Calculate the deflection in statistically determinate structures.
