Fall 2025 Lecture ScienceUpper DivisionA survey of the historical development of design from the industrial revolution to the present that examines the influence of new technologies, materials, and style on design practice as well as the role of design in shaping the technologies and things of everyday life. Throughout the course, students will analyze design within the broader social, cultural, and political context of production, consumption, and use.
Learning Outcomes1Identify a range of styles from the 18th century to the present.
2Critically analyze primary source material (artifacts/designed objects, images, and text).
