This online course is designed to provide an overview of introductory quantitative data analysis methods in education. The course is specially designed to enhance students' quantitative reasoning and skills through discussions of issues in educational data and authentic data analysis experiences of a variety of education data. The topics to be covered in this course include data collection and description, sampling distributions, methods of quantitative data analysis often used in education research. Permission of instructor required.

Learning Outcomes

1Think critically about quantitative data analysis used in popular magazines, newspapers, and journal articles.

2Apply the knowledge gained in the course to analysis his/her own data with simple quantitative methods.

3Understand common issues in analysis and interpretation of educational/social science data.

4Design a research study, use a statistical software package to analyze the data generated from the research study, and appropriately interpret the results and report the conclusions of the study.
