Fall 2025 Instructors:

Development of a philosophy of educational research and consideration of the methods for the selection and evaluation of techniques used in educational research. Techniques discussed are methods to control variables, sampling procedures, data collection procedures, statistical procedures, and research proposal development and writing. Prerequisite: EDPS 53300, (PSY 60100 or EDPS 53300), STAT 50200.

Learning Outcomes

1Understand the concepts, purposes, and methods that are fundamental to conduct systematic inquiry and to integrate them to conduct educational research.

2Conceptualize and develop a research proposal for a problem in the student's substantive area; select the method most appropriate for the research problem(s) and defend the use of the method of inquiry.

3Justify and explain thoroughly the specific method which will be used in his or her own research.
