Fall 2025 LectureThree primary areas in counseling psychology: 1) historical development within psychology; 2) American Psychological Association ethics, professional, and legal issues; and 3) the scientist-practitioner training model in counseling psychology identity. Permission of instructor required.
Learning Outcomes1Understand counselling psychology's (a) history, (b) position within the psychology discipline and profession and (c) ethical, legal, and professional standards.
2Gain a sense of how psychology and counselling psychology are embedded within and influenced by context (i.e., historical, societal, cultural, and economic factors).
3Begin socialization into (a) the attitudes, values, skills, and activities of a counselling psychologist; and (b) the Purdue Counselling Psychology program.
