This course is an introduction to the intellectual, social, and emotional characteristics of gifted youth; philosophies of gifted education; and programmatic and classroom approaches for supporting gifted students generally and within different domains (e.g., intellectual, academic, creative, artistic, leadership).

Learning Outcomes

1Understand who gifted, creative, and talented children are and how their talent development needs can be met in the school setting.

2Recognize the diversity that exists within the gifted, creative, and talented population.

3Understand the history, philosophical traditions, and paradigms of practice in gifted education.

4Develop awareness of specific strategies for supporting gifted, creative, and talented students within the school context.

5Develop awareness of key professional resources in the field of gifted education and talent development.

6Develop a personal identity as a practitioner of gifted education.
