Supervised use of personal and/or career counseling and assessment applied to complex and difficult client situations. Critical analysis of counseling supervision theories. Prerequisite: EDPS 61400. Permission of instructor required.

Learning Outcomes

1Demonstrate appropriate professional and ethical behavior in their interactions with agency clients and staff.

2Design treatment plans that are based on appropriate assessment and conceptualization of client problems.

3Develop the conceptual and critical thinking skills that are required of a scientist-practitioner, such as the ability to formulate and test hypotheses regarding the bases of client behavior.

4Utilize interventions that are rooted in theory and research in counsellng/psychotherapy, human development, and personality.

5Demonstrate understanding and respect for clients' cultural values, identities (e.g., racial, gender), and desires for self-determined growth.

6Demonstrate an increased awareness of clinical strengths as well as areas of growth and professional development.

7Demonstrate ability to effectively use individual and group supervision.
