Fall 2026 Lecture Distance Learning Lower DivisionBehavioral/Social SciencesIntroduction to concepts of learning and motivation in educational contexts (i.e., Educational Psychology). Influence of development, culture, and individual differences on learning and motivation. Uses of assessment and technology in promoting learning and motivation. A field-based experiential component is included.
Learning Outcomes1Understanding of the learning processes including the role of previous experiences and the constructive nature of learning, cognitive constraints, and the role of the social environment.
2Understanding of the principles of cognitive, personal, social, and moral development.
3Understanding of principles of motivation including how to initiate and maintain student engagement.
4Understand the fundamental assessment concepts including the purpose of assessment, the importance of alignment to instructional goals, and the interpretation and use of data.
5Understanding of the creation of environments conducive for learning.
