Statics of particles. Rigid bodies: equivalent systems of forces, equilibrium. Centroids and centers of gravity. Static analysis of trusses, frames, and machines. Friction. Area moments of inertia.

Learning Outcomes

1Utilize fundamental vector mechanics concepts to understand, explain, and describe the behavior of particle and rigid-body equilibrium.

2Determine centroids and moments of inertia of areas.

3Analyze the behavior of typical engineering components using force and moment equilibrium.
