The term technology has multiple meanings and applications so vast that one clear and all-encompassing definition of the term has become unattainable. However, to build an epistemology of technology, we must explore ways to define technology so to provide a foundation for a philosophy of technology. This course will explore multiple views and definitions of technology embedded within the scholarly work focused on technology in order to build and defend a philosophy of technology.

Learning Outcomes

1Develop a working definition of technology.

2Describe the multiple views of technology and explain how these views shape the way people develop a philosophy of technology.

3Identify ways in which technology influences society and how society influences technology.

4Debate the lines between science vs. technology in order to identify their similarities and differences.

5Explore the ethical implications of technology.
