Fall 2026 Laboratory Lecture Upper DivisionThis course builds upon the engineering design process by incorporating rapid prototyping, product development, and entrepreneurial thinking to address authentic problems. Students will develop prototypes, test them in real-world contexts, and collect performance data. Designs will be revised to reflect a deeper understanding of manufacturing processes and the needs of end-users and customers. The course will also examine intellectual property, marketing, and business infrastructure considerations. In addition, students will explore the logistics of engineering and technology laboratory management as a means of supporting others in learning about design and innovation practices and concepts.
Learning Outcomes1Select and use appropriate methods/tools/equipment/software to make decisions and prototype and optimize design solutions.
2Conduct user tests and customer interviews to gain insights from prototypes to make design and business development decisions.
3Communicate the technical details for a viable solution to a validated problem to share with a variety of stakeholders.
4Explain the logistics of engineering and technology laboratory management to teach others in learning about design and innovation practices and concepts.
