This elective course provides the student with the opportunity to become proficient in all aspects of mare reproductive management. Palpation of the mare's reproductive tract will be emphasized. It also allows students to enhance their abilities to recognize reproductive problems and to formulate and carry out a diagnostic and therapeutic plan.

Learning Outcomes

1Safely and competently perform a transrectal palpation and ultrasound of the reproductive tract of the mare.

2Acquire basic understanding of managing the mares estrous cycle for breeding based on transrectal and ultrasound findings.

3Obtain entry level knowledge of common procedures including caslick, vaginoscopy, endometrial biopsy, uterine culture and cytology, artificial insemination, uterine lavage and flushing.
