Fall 2025 Distance Learning Lecture Lower DivisionOverview of the dietetics profession, including standards, ethics, educational and employment opportunities, and professional credentialing. Spring semester offered only through distance learning.
Learning Outcomes1Describe the profession of dietetics and future trends.
2Recognize the education preparation needed to pursue careers in dietetics including different education models of becoming an entry-level dietitian.
3Demonstrate knowledge of the supervised practice experience application process.
4Identify the credentialing of dietetic practitioners.
5Recognize the major professional organizations in dietetics such as the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, state affiliates and district dietetic associations, and dietetic practice groups and the roles of each.
6Demonstrate the ability to develop a professional development portfolio, resume, and cover letter.
7Develop an understanding of professionalism related to dietetics including interviewing skills, professional etiquette, professional ethics, and professional practice standards.
8Develop skills for planning a career in dietetics such as self-assessment, goal setting, networking, job search strategies, and timeline establishment.
