Fall 2025 Lecture Distance Learning Upper DivisionThis course focuses on developing and maintaining effective relationships between parents and professionals working with children, within the context of family-centered practices. Issues related to cultural, linguistic, economic, and developmental differences that affect relations between families and professionals are examined.
Learning Outcomes1Demonstrate an understanding of the development tasks and concerns of parents across the life course.
2Demonstrate an understanding of the content and design of innovative professional practices and program strategies that seek to promote positive parenting outcomes or reduce/prevent unhealthy parenting outcomes in each developmental stage of parenting.
3Demonstrate an understanding of how diverse family characteristics and circumstances shape the developmental tasks, concerns, and needs of parents.
4Demonstrate an understanding of the implications of diverse family characteristics and circumstances for professional practices and program strategies aimed at supporting parents.
5Demonstrate an understanding of how to creatively work with students colleagues to develop an original program idea that supports parents during a particular developmental stage.
