This course provides an introduction to the development of individuals from the prenatal period to adulthood and old age. Theories and research findings related to physical growth, cognitive and language development and social and emotional development will be discussed. CTL:ISH 1021 Developmental Psychology.

Learning Outcomes

1Identify key physical, cognitive, emotional, and social characteristics at each life stage.

2Identify the basic tenets of leading theories in human development.

3Distinguish among prominent methods used in developmental research and identify their strengths and weaknesses.

4Explain the relationships among different domains of development (i.e. biological, psychological, and social) and how they affect one another across the life course.

5Make predictions about developmental outcomes that are grounded in theory.
