Examines the biological and pathological characteristics of major causal agents; concepts of epidemiology and disease assessment; physiology, genetics, and molecular biology of host-pathogen interactions; disease management practices; and methods of disease diagnosis.

Learning Outcomes

2Understand the current state of knowledge in plant pathology from applied to molecular plant pathogen interactions.

3Understand importance of plant disease in food security.

4Understand plant pathogens and how they cause diseases; the biological and pathological characteristics of major pathogens; Understand pathogenesis of bacterial, fungal, nematode and viral diseases.

5Understand plant disease resistance pathways, genetic resistance mechanisms starting form gene for gene interactions.

6Understand resistance to necrotrophic plant pathogens.

7Understand biotechnological approaches to plant diseases resistance.

8Identify and describe an economically important plant disease.
